About me

Michael Kitanda is a Ugandan Jazz Saxophonist, 32 years of age. Born in a Mulago, a Kampala suburb to Mr. Kalyowa John and Ms. Nabunya Mary(RIP) in a musical family of Six, he is the last born in the family.
The choice to be a musician followed a controversial decision by his parents to chose a primary school (Omega Primary School)that had a brass band following that they had noticed his exceptional interest for music.
It turned out a good decision as he was immediately fascinated by his fellow pupils who played in the brass band and there was little or no effort at all needed to persuade him to join the School brass band.
He went to St. Joseph’s Naggalama for Secondary school where he got introduced to Classical music by his brother and music tutor Dr. Kagumba Andrew (PHD) who also later taught him a lot about ethnomusicology.
With the live jazz scene exploding, Michael Kitanda became a name to reckon with and has since played with Uganda’s top bands that include Baxmba Waves Band, Qwela Band, Janzi Band, Code 9 Band among others
He has shared stage with international Jazz acts like Norman Brown,Richard Bona,Marcus Anderson.
He has also worked with Top Ugandan artistes like Jose Chameleone,Isaiah Katumwa, Happy Kyazze(his brother) Maurice Kirya, Myko Ouma, Levixone among others
He just released a Brand New Christmas Album titled CHRISTMAS IN KAMPALA and is set to Release his second official Album SAX APPEAL in 2025.
